The National Bank of Cambodia organized a ceremony to commemorate Riel Day, marking the 46th Anniversary of the Reintroduction of the Khmer Riel (20 March 1980 – 20 March 2026). The event was held under the high presidency of H.E. Cheang Vun, Chairman of the Commission on Economy, Finance, Banking, and Audit of the National Assembly, on 20 March 2026 at the Institute for Banking Studies (IBS).

On this occasion, H.E. Yim Leat, Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, delivered remarks presenting key findings of two research publications, jointly conducted by the National Bank of Cambodia in collaboration with the National Assembly and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Cambodia, namely: i) a summary report on the study titled “Dollarization and Its Effects in the Garment, Footwear, and Travel Goods and Bags Sector in Cambodia”; and ii) a research paper titled “An Examination of Currency Usage in the Public Sector.”

The program also included a panel discussion on “Progress, Challenges, and Policies to Promote the Use of the Riel,” with participation from senior representatives of the National Bank of Cambodia, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, the European Chamber of Commerce, and the Association of Banks in Cambodia. The event underscored the importance of the Khmer Riel in supporting Cambodia’s socio-economic development.

It was attended by approximately 250 participants, including senior officials from the National Assembly, ministries, public institutions, development partners, banking and financial institutions, relevant stakeholders, and students.
