H.E. NEAV Chanthana, Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, is presiding over a Capacity Building Seminar on Financial Inclusion in Asia-Pacific: The Way Forward on 7-8 December 2017, in Siem Reap, Cambodia. This Seminar is jointly organized by the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) and the IMF’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (OAP), supported by the IMF’s Asia and the Pacific Department (APD), and funded by the Government of Japan. 65 central bankers, financial regulators, ministry of finance officials and development partners from 17 countries in the Asia-Pacific region attend this important Seminar with the purpose to share knowledge on the current status of financial inclusion in the Asia-Pacific region; its impact on economic growth, poverty alleviation and income inequality reduction; the linkage between macroeconomic policies and financial inclusion; the impact of financial technology; and the future prospect. Financial inclusion is a key objective of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a result, the Seminar will draw attention to financial inclusion from an Asia-Pacific perspective and exchange ideas on what is needed for a “call to action” which can be undertaken in the region.
