H.E. Yim Leat, Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), chaired a meeting with a working group of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPTC) led by H.E. Secretary-General Chea Sereyvath on August 6, 2024 at the National Bank of Cambodia, which aims to discuss the opportunities for the cooperation between the two institutions in the promotion of riel usage.
At the meeting, H.E. Yim Leat the participation of ministries-institutions and other relevant stakeholders including the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications is indispensable in the promotion of riel usage. H.E. Deputy Governor initiated a consideration of possibility of setting prices in riel for products and services that are available in the telecommunications and organizing workshops to disseminate the promotion of riel in the sector.
In response, H.E. Chea Sereyvath welcomed the initiative and took it for further internal consideration and especially discussion with telecommunications operators for the initial step. Additionally, he praised the National Bank of Cambodia for the development of its electronic payment system of the nation, in particular the Bakong system that has contributed in the promotion of riel usage and efficient payment transactions.
