H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, received H.E. Steven Pang Chee Wee, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Singapore to the Kingdom of Cambodia, for a courtesy call and working discussion on 12 May 2026 at the National Bank of Cambodia, Wat Phnom Building.
During the meeting, H.E. Governor and H.E. Ambassador highlighted the strong cooperation between the two countries in promoting financial innovation, including the Financial Transparency Corridor (FTC) initiative and cooperation between the credit bureaus of both countries. Both sides also exchanged views on global economic developments, emerging challenges, and Cambodia’s economic outlook.
On this occasion, H.E. Ambassador highlighted the rapid development of Cambodia’s digital payment ecosystem and the convenience of cross-border QR code payment transactions in Cambodia. In response, H.E. Governor also shared updates on the progress of the Bakong payment system and highlighted its contribution to promoting financial inclusion, supporting tourism sector development, and encouraging the broader use of the Khmer Riel.
Both sides also underscored the importance of international cooperation in information sharing and strengthening preventive measures to combat online scams and cross-border financial crimes facilitated through digital technologies.
